THE VODKA BOTTLE

the plain and simple vodka bottle
for the many unfortunate to succumb to it
it's the ultimate sign of alcoholic abuse:
the literal end of the line
but how thin or thick that line is
depends upon you
with it in hand all attachment to reality fade

16 years into my sobriety
i've never forgotten what that bottle once did
it opened the door to horrors

"you can drink all you want and it won't smell
on your breath"
many would say
to this day, i don't know whether or not it
does or doesn't

but enough of the memories;
all i can say now that if i ever go into a bar or
liquor store with the intention of buying, i hope
someone shots me dead before i can get in...

AUTHOR'S POSTSCRIPT: i suppose the issue would have to be
confronted sooner or later. writing this was difficult.
when writing this i was very self conscious, having
been through it all.
