SEX IN AMERICA

sexual symbols
these perpetual indicators ever present in 
american society
that set the pace for our own progress 
of evaluating and re-evaluating ourselves 
permeating our media and our arts

these symbols-don't point the way to real lust 
but to something far more subtle and insidious: 
the mind begins to operate in ways that 
arouse the body and the emotions 
for no apparently good reason

it's a consciousness induction 
subterranean
mind games/ psychical power plays/ 
but amounting to what? 
does the objectives of the sexual manipulators 
keep us in subtle bondage to one of our most 
vital of basic impulses?

it's not a matter of virtues of old 
when pregnancy and birth were viewed solemnly/ 
many of us today go to great lengths to avoid 
either or both

it's sex that counts
and the stimulus is always there somewhere

perpetuation of the species? 
that pales by comparison to the actual immersion 
into the acts of lust and passion...
