FLIES

agile, keen, quick, fleet afoot as they are in the air
these flies that have invaded the sanctuary
of my cafe privacy in the depths of this establishment
and working on my work
have disrupted my undertakings with their persistent
and annoying presences

they prove themselves once again to not only be
among the most adaptable of nature's creatures,
but simultaneously incredibly irritating to
a human being, who regards himself as the superior
species inhabiting this globe

these two flies work in tandem but in a totally
erratic fashion
having taken a keen attraction to my coffee cup/
alighting on it time and time again/
they seem to be playing a game with me
daring me to respond to do anything, but here in this
cafe i am limited in what i can do

consistently waving them away time and again
seems to be my only recourse
disengaging them for a few moments only to have them
plague me again with their persistence in returning
to break into my mind set innumerable times

the urge to kill is irresistible

but fortunately some other people come in with
delicacies in front of them:
sweet pastries
that prove themselves to be more attractive than
my cup of coffee ever will be
they finally leave me alone

isn't it amazing that for supposed creatures of
limited intelligence drawn only by instinct that
they seem to possess an appreciation for quality?
