       VICKI 6-8-90

        *1 a sybarite in angel's form/
                she reemerges with an image
                power magnified

        *2 but by what force?

        *3 unknown/
                my powers to discover never
                have extended into that
                celestial sphere..

                i say...
                unknowable..
                do not interfere with her
                mystique

        *4 clad in the transparency
                of white organdy lace
                gift-given
                by the hopelessly enchanted,
                she streams into view
                white light bathed/
                but white light consumes all
just as surely as total blackness
                will -

*5 never the startling prom queen
she made her mark at the
                Mardi Gras
                and having consumed many
                she put new meaning into
                the term carnival-

                dreaded angel,
                your sweetness is deceptive

*6 lives hinge upon the intensity of your smile
                and the confessions of others
                you lock behind it

*7 she met me on the road
                leading north
                shorn of her lacey garments

                i stared into her transmitting
                eyes/
                bid her my love/
and took her by the hand
                satisfied in my judgment
                that she remains
                as always -

                almost innocent.
