Trestle Bents - Construction Jim's Garden Rail Road
I began making trestle bents before I built my first bridge. They were lighter duty and are used only for shorter trestles. All trestle bents for the Compression Bridge are Double Wide to support the bridge. They are 1/2 inch scale and are made from plans by Garden-Texture . All of these are made from redwood fence boards - old used, beat up looking, weathered fence boards. But the inside of them was just perfect! In some cases we left the grey outer skin because it was already weathered. Exterior water proof glue and 5/8 brads were used in most cases. The larger 1/2 inch trestle caps were fastened with 1 1/8 inch screws or finishing nails and glue.

All wood is treated with a preservative stain then coated with clear Behr Water Protectant. While most weathered trestles are naturally grey or near black in real life situations, my CEO (wife) likes the Sequoia Orange stain color. So that is what is used on our railroad.
