Grease may be the word-but how useful is it?
Imagine the words of Danny and Sandra as two pieces of historical evidence.

Imagine we had a question "how useful is .. about the events of the summer?".
To discuss this issue we would need to investigate the
Nature
Origin and
Purpose

of the sources.

This will be called the NOP.

Nature means what it is.
1. How would you describe Danny's evidence-what is it ?
2. How does this effect his evidence?
3. Is this the best type of source to give his real view? Explain?
4. At the very end of the song, the nature of the source changes-how?
5. How does this change at the end effect the value of the source?

6. Sandy is not talking to her friends like Danny is-how does this effect her evidence?

Origin means where the source came from
7. The origins here are "teenage boy" and "teenage girl"-how does that effect the evidence?

8. Another origin is that they were both present at the event-does that help you accept the sources? Explain.

9. Another origin is that they do not know that the other is in the school. How does that effect things?

Purpose means why the source was produced.
10. Why is it important that Danny has an audience of male friends for his song? Think about his motive /reason for producing the evidence.

11. If the source changed its nature (say Danny was writing a letter to his mum about the romance) how would the purpose change and how would the evidence change?

12. Generally-do not think that these sources tell you nothing. They are one sided, but what do they tell you? You must choose a subject to discuss.
