When Jesus is
not enough?
Intro:
What a strange title to a message but how true it is in a world that is anti-Jesus. This morning let us explore the behaviors the thoughts of someone that loves self more than Jesus.
2 Tim 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
The motivation of these people is simply control. When Jesus is not enough? What is left but a person who thinks they are the masters, a Lord, in a sense a God.
(Psa 53:1) To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
·
They say
there is no God. Why? Because they
believe there the God.
(Prov 12:15) The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
The fool can see no other way that is another path except the way of self-gratification. Never considering being a servant but always desiring to be served.
Jn 3: 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
This very nature of
Depravity which means wicked and perverse:
Began in the Garden
of Eden when Adam disobeyed God. When Adam followed the counsel of Eve instead
of God.
This fallen nature was past down to every human that was to be born.
(Rom 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Cain the firstborn of Adam was made subject to the fallen nature.
Cain killed his brother out of jealousy. You know the story Cain sacrifice was not accepted and God accepted Abel’s. Cain was mad because he didn’t want to give of the first fruits. He was trying to set the rules. He wanted to be served instead of serve.
·
When Jesus is not enough
what does that leave but a person who is bitter confused and never satisfied.
·
This person is always in
fear of other men but never God.
You may say I fear no man,
and I say you do. You fear that man who can take away your job your possessions
your spouse your friends your fun time.
The lost man fears other men
but never God.
(Mat 10:28) And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Fear is the mindset of the
lost man of loosing all that he has collected in his life.
Jesus Christ has set the standards. He can not be bargained with, his word can’t be made more palatable. It is what it is Holy and True.
Matt 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
There are two
principles in this sermon.
1.
To reinforce
the believers relationship with Jesus
Child of God fear not
what man can do unto you. Serve Jesus and not self.
(Josh 24:15) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
(Josh 24:16) And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
2.
To
understand that a lost man is only going to serve self.
He may have a form of Godliness. But his interest are always about himself. And his destination is that place called HELL
Matt 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Child of God have you found yourself serving the flesh if so repent and receive forgiveness.
If there is any person here today that the Lord is speaking too and you see your sin and you see a Holy Jesus Christ.
(Rom 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
My friend if you believe Jesus then eternal damnation no longer awaits you but eternal glory with Jesus Christ.
Can you say in your heart today but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
If you can say that will you not make it known to this Church today.
