JOHN HAMILTON DAVID BREWTON
1820-1857
"John Hamilton David Brewton left Alabama in 1852 with his wife and her parents, on the way, one of the Brewton boys fell
out of the wagon and a wheel ran over him"
as told to James Perry Brewton
John Hamilton David Brewton, born in 1820, was the son of David Brewton and Nancy Pemberton.  On 21 March 1837, he married Nancy Lowe, the daughter of Hettie Fields and (unknown) Lowe.  Nancy Lowe was born  8 December 1817 in North Carolina.  Her step-father was Captain James Lacey.  It is with Hettie and James that John Hamilton David and his wife made the journey to Louisiana in 1852, settling in the northwestern corner of Winn Parish, Louisiana.  JHD Brewton and Nancy had seven children: Elizabeth Ann m. Marshall Walker: Samuel George, CSA, m. Nancy Ann Cloud: Joseph G. CSA M. Pansy Lucky: WIlliam: Edward Lacey m Francis Elizabeth Quarles (my great grandparents): Amanda m James Gunter: John Hamilton David Jr. m Olevia Gunter.
The graves of John Hamilton David Brewton and his wife, Nancy Pemberton, hewn out of red sandstone.  In 1980, their descendants replaced the old tombstones with modern granite markers.
John died 2 February 1857 from typhoid fever and Nancy died 11 Feb 1865.   They both are buried in the
Pine Ridge Cemetery in Winn Parish, a short distance from Cloud's Crossing.  Nancy's new tombstone shows her maiden name as Lacey. Also in the cemetery are Hettie Fields and James  Lacey.
