Starman, Jr. HP: 200, Off: 11, Def: 10 Strategy: He's the first boss of the game, and also the easiest. Buzz Buzz uses PSI Sheild Sigma, which will make any attack from the Starman, Jr. disappear. So just keep bashing. Buzz Buzz will use PSI shield Sigma, then attack, the PSI shield Sigma, then attack, etc. Picky will attack, but only do 1 damage. Pokey still sucks just as bad.
This is the guide to all the other bosses in Earthbound
Note: PSI Rockin' refers to Ness's favorite thing, it can be anything that you put it to.
Frank HP: 63 Off: 12 Def: 17 Strategy: Frank is hard, depending on what he does. If he bradishes a knife every turn, you have to attack, and then heal with a hamburger or Lifeup. What you really hope he does is to come out swinging, which does only half of what a knife does, or say something nasty which lowers your guts. Just keep bashing and hope to win.
Frankenstien Mark II HP: 90, Off: 15, Def: 18 Strategy: Right after Frank, you need to defeat his machine, Frankenstien Mark II. Right away, heal any damage that you have left from Frank and then attack. Mark II will always generate a burst of steam after he attacks, use this time to heal damage, if you are within range of mortal damage (dying). Eventually, you will beat him.
Captian Strong HP: 140, Off: 20, Def: 24 Strategy: If you Sheild alpha by now, great! If you don't, that's ok. If you know Sheild alpha, immediatly put it up and then bash. If your sheild disappears, put it back up. Make sure that you heal too. If you don't know sheild alpha, just keep bashing and healing. If he gets you around 30 HP with just attacking, heal immediatly. He can come out swinging which hurts, plus he can lose his temper which makes his offense go up. Just keep bashing and healing and you should win.
Mr. Carpainter. HP: 262, Off: 33, Def: 45 Strategy: All you need to do is to keep bashing away. He will use his Crashing Boom Bang attack, which, if it hits, will bounce back if you have the Franklin Badge. You should just defeat him easy.
Boogey Tent HP: 617, Off: 43, Def: 73 Strategy: This guy is easy. Just have Ness bash, have Jeff bash, and have Paula use the strongest Fire move. Have Ness heal if need be. (For me, all he did was spit out Fly Honey, which makes you unable to move, and let off a pale green light, which gets arid of all effects of PSI, like offense up and sheild.)
Master Belch HP: 650, Off: 50, Def: 88 Strategy: If you use Fly Honey right away, he will shoot his nauseating breath at you, and then for the rest of the battle lose his mind wolfing down Fly Honey. Have Ness heal whoever got sick, and then just bash away until he's defeated. Easy as that.
Mini Barf: HP: 616, Off: 45, Def: 71 Strategy: This guy will almost always begin the battle by blowing his nauseating breath at you, which will cause your whole party to cry. Just have Ness and Jeff bash away, and have Paula use Freeze, because the spells won't miss, even if you are crying! (Note: If you don't have Paula, you are SOL right now)
Guardian Digger HP: 386, Off: 59, Def: 129 Strategy: These guys wouldn't be so tough if 1) you didn't have to fight them 5 times 2) if they weren't scattered in a cave. The good news is, after you fight each one, you can, if you want, just come out of the cave and heal. (For some reason, they all say that they are the third strongest) They start out with a sheild. Have Ness and Jeff bash away, and have Paula use PSI Freeze Beta. He should then attack. Then do the same again. He should be defeated since Freeze Beta is so strong.
Dept. Store Spook HP: 610, Off: 82, Def: 135 Strategy: Before you face him, make sure that you have at least one Big Bottle Rocket with Jeff and at least one Teddy bear. Have Ness bash and have Jeff use the Big Bottle Rocket. The Dept. Store Spook should use Freeze Alpha on the Teddy bear and it won't affect him. You should then have Ness and Jeff attack and he should go down. I have not found any other way to defeat him.
Evil Mani Mani HP: 860, Off: 86, Def: 145 Strategy: The only thing I can say is make sure that the Night Pendant is equipped to Ness, because the Mani Mani uses Flash beta, and Jeff may cry, feel funky, become paralyzed, or die. Just have Ness and Jeff bash, and heal if necessary, but don't revive Jeff. If you become paralyzed (Paralysis alpha, which the Evil Mani Mani knows!) use PSI Rockin beta, and also hope he doesn't use it right after he faints Jeff.
Clumsy Robot HP: 962, Off: 88, Def: 137 Strategy: (Did you notice that this has now been four bosses to rescue Paula?!?) You need to have a Sudden Guts Pill before you face this guy. Basically, this guy is tough or easy. If he is easy, he will do a bunch of stuff that does nothing. If he is tough, he will constantly launch a missile that does major damage to Ness and Jeff. Just heal Ness and Jeff as necessary. Right at the beginning, though, use the Sudden Guts Pill on Ness. Eventually, he should score SMAAAAAAAAAASH!. The Clumsy Robot can heal himself, but don't worry. After doing enough damage, the Runaway Five come in, shut him down, and save the day!
