BCS Restrictor Removal
As a word of caution. You do have a aftermarket boost guage.RIGHT!
With this mod you might notice a 1 to 2psi increase. Some people say they don't noticed any increase. When I did mine I noticed a 2psi increase.Make sur your car is up to par.***Make sure you check your spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil pack, fluids.***Use Premium fuel only(92 and up).Which is what you should be using anyways. With that said I think your ready for the task at hand.
Here's how we do this.
- Move the coolant reservoir out of the way and lay it somewhere in the engine compartment so it doesn't leak. You don't HAVE to do this but it just makes life easier.
- Use a 10mm socket or open ended wrench to remove the nut holding the Wastegate Solenoid to the frame.
- Remove the electrical connection from the Wastegate Solenoid.
- Remove both hoses from the Wastegate Soleniod.
- Looking at the Wastegate Soleniod you can see that the bottom hole is smaller. If you look even closer you can see that there is actually an insert in there which is making the opening smaller. You can see it.
- You can use any number of tools to remove the restrictor: small needle nose, paper clip, wood/sheet metal screw, small screw driver, etc. The important thing is NOT to break it. The mod goes from free to $60 real fast.I used a small drill bit.I twisted the drill bit in about a 1/4".Don't go into the soleniod to deep or you'll be buying a new one!!!Then I turned and pulled the bit at the same time.I had no problems pulling it out.Just take your time.
- Re-connect the hoses (hint: the one with the metal clip goes on the bottom.)
- Re-connect the electrical connector(you'll only get 8-9 psi if you forget.)
- Re-attach the Wastegate Solenoid to the frame.
- Replace the coolant reservoir.
- Close your hood.
- Have fun.
