I worked in the Southcomm / Terracomm organization for the 11 years -- the
first job after discharge from the U.S.Navy. The Southcomm workforce fluctuated
from about 30, when hired, to nearly 200 when sold to Loral Corporation. Loral
merged Southcomm with their Terracomm division in San Diego.
The merger / acquisition event started a chain of lay-offs. The Southcomm
group was reduced from nearly 200 to 10. I feel fortunate to keep my position in
the Southcomm engineering group until the final lay-off in April '88.
Lay-off: 10 years, 8 months service
| Southcomm International |
July 1977 to April 1986 |
Southcomm International is (was) located in Escondido,
Southcomm developed HF radios for military and para-military applications.
I hired into the engineering group - 15 engineers and technicians. The
size of our group allowed me the opportunity to work in all phases of
product development from conception to production. |
