| Welcome to Hearst |
| In the early 19th century when people moved here, the town was named Grant until 1922 when a Premier of Ontario named it Hearst. French people settled later in the 1920s and 1930s. We are settled in the Algoma District near Sault St. Marie and Timmins surrounded by small communities like Hornepayne, Kapuskasing, Longlac, Chapleau and White River. Fishing and camping are a popular recreation around here and many people from outside enjoy the wildlife. We serve accomodations for all visitors to enjoy Hearst such as Companion, Northen Seasons, Villa and Queen's. We got a variety of bars for everyone to enjoy such as the Waverly, Queen's Hotel, Legion, Bistro and Windsor Palace. We also serve a lot of campgrounds around here especially Nagagamisis and Fushimi which are popular for fishing. In the fall hunting plays a very big role around here especially for moose and partridge. In the winter snowmobiling and ice fishing are popular activities. P.S. Remember it is very important to watch the weather before going out in the wildlife! |
