One
of the nice things about this trip was that we were able to share
responsibilities like making breakfast and dinner. In the picture
to the right, Cheryl is working up breakfast while Thomas is enjoying
some hot chocolate. We try to be diligent about using the tarp
under the kitchen to keep scraps of food from ending up in the mouths of
ants and mice.
To
the left here, Alex and I are working on the dishes. How happy do
we look? The first pan is soapy, hot water, the next is clear, hot
water and the third is cold, bleachy water. I've seen and used
four bucket systems where the first would just be cold water. We
found that a mesh laundry bag made of synthetic material worked pretty
well to hang dry the dishes. After the dishes are done, you take
the buckets down to the river and strain them into the river.
After
Coal Creek Rapid, I reboarded the raft and Angie decided to try out an
inflatable kayak. I remember going through Nefertiti Rapid where
there is a huge eddy to the left of the tongue. Angie and Alex
went in to the eddy to see if there were any stranded paddles or gear
that could be gotten as this was where we had seen a paddle
before. I remember being impressed with the speed with which she
and Alex were carried back upstream. I admit a bit of nervousness
about them being able to break out of the eddy but they had no problem.
Well, Don had improved quiet a bit.
We pulled into the take out pretty early in the day. It was
another great trip, filled with desert beauty, exercise, plenty of
sleep, plenty of food and lots of fun.
