 From
its source, the water runs down a broad valley and then comes to a layer
of stone that is easily cut into narrows. |

 You
can descend down into the narrows by rope. Now you are in a very
intimate part of this amazing canyon. The width of the narrows is
perhaps 8 feet or so - more and less in some spots. You can work
your way perhaps 200 feet along the floor of the narrows. The
water is cool and clear. A change from the cool, dirty water of
the Colorado.

 It's
obviously a magical place and folks have known that for a while - long
before Europeans, Spanish came to live in the southwest in 1520's.
The Hisatsinom were here and left their autographs by spraying pigment
over their outstretched hands. By the way, I need to point out
that I'm not touching either the pictograph or even the rock here.
The oils in our hands cause the pictograph to breakdown. I just wanted
to show the difference in hand sizes from them to me. This autograph is
at least 800 years old.
