Eastern Europe Trip - Page 8

verliko turnova, bulgaria.jpg (37017 bytes)I traveled back to Sofia then on through Plovdiv and Kazanluk.  I don't have too many pictures of these towns but I do have special memories.  Each place in Bulgaria actually was more or less like this.  People would go entirely out of their way to help me, from the people who took me to the train station in Sofia and made sure I got the right ticket waited with me until I got on the train, to the guy that after having walked me ten minutes to find a street gave me his name and phone number in case I ran into any trouble, to the people at the Ethnographic Museum in Kazanluk who opened a closed portion of the museum just for me!  Bulgaria is a special place.  And if you go there - don't muck it up.

The picture to the right is of Verliko Turnova - a walled ruin with a church on top.

old style 500 leba.jpg (60209 bytes)This is the old Bulgarian 500 Leba which was devalued to about half a new Leba.  I think this is worth just about a quarter.
new years eve prague 2000.jpg (28984 bytes)From Bulgaria, I raced back up to Prague to attend the New Year's Celebration.  It was just as crazy as I remembered but I was sick so it wasn't as much fun as I had the last time.  There were still lots of fireworks and drinking and commeraderie.
bertamka, prague.jpg (43174 bytes)This is the Bertramka residence where Mozart stayed and composed while in Prague.  The piano is one on which he actually played.mozart piano, prague.jpg (28574 bytes)
