Eastern Europe Trip - Page 5

dracula's bed.jpg (28864 bytes)So I went out to Dracula's Castle.  This is the bed that he slept in.  Dark but beautiful.  I went there with a Japanese girl who barely spoke English.  I was amazed at her courage.

The women who are custodians of the place take advantage of the job by storing sweaters and blankets that they have knit in side rooms and taking the occasional tourist (like me) aside and trying to sell them.

cheacescu's bear rug.jpg (30271 bytes)Allegedly the bear skin on the floor is from a bear the Cheaucescu shot.  This is also in the castle.
castle peles sinaia, romania.jpg (57189 bytes)This is a castle in Sinaia I wanted to see.  I took a taxi cab from Brasov only to find out that the castle was closed the day I went.  Oh well.  So back to the train and on to Bucharest.
sugar mcdonalds bucharesti.jpg (39146 bytes)Yep - it's a sugar packet from the McDonald's in Bucharest, Romania.  I stopped in Bucharest only to change trains to go to Sofia, Bulgaria.  Bucharest is noted for the large number of poor children who huff (that is get high on inhalants) to ward off the pain of hunger.  Tragic.  Don't give children money - give them food.  Anyway, there was nothing I wanted to see in Bucharest.
