 I
went on to a little resort town called Szentendre. It's main claim
to fame is its wonderful marzipan sculptures. To the left is a
postcard bought there. The marzipan has some pretty impressive
structural characteristics and seems to stand the test of time.

 From
Hungary I went to Sighishora, Romania. I should have budgeted about
4 hours for this but I ended up staying overnight. The photo to the
right is a Romanian Orthodox Church. It was a very black and white
scene with just the blue, yellow and red stripe down the tower - the
colors of the countries flag. |

 I
was amazed that this little town had internet access. The
performance wasn't too impressive but... it was internet access in
Romania. I also had the privilege of eating at a restaurant that is
in a building once owned by Vlad Tepes, aka Vlad the Impaler, aka
Dracula. The food was ok.
I had a little trouble here converting money. I used my bank card to with draw some money and there were 20,000 lei to the dollar (if I remember correctly) and I wanted $100 worth for my stay in Romania. I think I ended up with more or less the right amount but it seems to me I got out 2,000,000 lei. I had a stack of bills. I had heard the story that someone wanted to go to the bathroom in Romania and when he saw how little toilet paper he could buy for the requested some - he decided to use the money as toilet paper instead - figuring it was the better deal. |
