Child of a Dream
Even though you have
denied my existence with you
many times before
as a myth, a dream
or some forgotten tale
that was told by an evening's fire
I still desire to know
Who or what
has stolen away the love
that once poured forth from you
like an early morning shower.
For I no longer desire to know
where the sun has fled to at night
or where it has arrived from in the morning
My only desire is to know
where your needing heart has taken you.
For you have vanished from the land
like the pirates in days of old-
Sleeping now in the shifting tide
of a restless sea.
Sleeping now in the silent wind
that stirs ashes from the land
and evokes the breath of the newborn child.
Child of spring and fall
Child of the earth beneath me
and the heaven above.
Child of confusion and misuse-
I hold my lips to the very breasts
that once brought rivers of life
to my wanting shores
and awakened the tired soul within me.
