Jamelyn in Costa Rica
19 November 2006

I know it's been a while since I last posted.  I am now home and enjoying being with friends and family again.  I am taking in the down time, using it to unpack (well sorta) and reflect and sing in the car (one of the things I missed most).

In all seriousness, transitioning has been easier than I expected, but also has been a good learning time (since when is something an opportunity you can't learn from?).  I'm starting to ask how I can use my time in Costa Rica and the lessons I learned to impact where I am now, and where I will be in the future?  This answer is more a process than a specific response.  But I have my pen and am taking notes as God leads.

In terms of finishing up my time in CR, the kids put on a great play.  They used their scripts (it was hard to coordinate rehersals so they didn't have a lot of time to memorize, plus that in of itself is a significant challenge).  But they were able to act and work together and the feat of putting alltogether speaks so well orf them.  My boss was so impressed with the whole thing that whe has called in a couple of friends of hers who are profession actors and Rahab is going to start a drama club for the teens.  This is a great opportunity for them
to keep coming to Rahab after they graduate from their program in December.  In February, when school starts up again, Rahab will have a new set of girls to be in the teens program.

I had a good bye party at Rahab on Thursday, the day before I left, and it was the best party I've ever been to.  All the kids I had worked with were there, and they sang to me and then went around and wished me well.  The staff gave me a few parting gifts including a plaque and a framed morpho butterfly, which is the Foundation's mascot.  I was so touched.

Friday morning I said goodbye to my family, and my friends Amanda and Zue accompanied me to the airport.  All the goodbyes were not fun, but we all move on, but never far from friends and family.

These girls, and Cristina are my closest friends from CR.
They are great blessings!
