Steve Clark
Born: April 23, 1960 Sheffield England
Died: January 8, 1991
In January 1978 Steve joined Def Leppard. He once threatened to quit because he was fed up at the slow pace at which the band was going: nowhere. From that he convinced the band to play their first public performance: At a school in their hometown. In 1982 Steve's co-lead guitarist Pete Willis is replaced by Phil Collen. The legendary duo become known as the "Terror Twins." With Phil's ultra-technical style of play and Steve's soulful performances it became a match made in heaven. "Pyromania" and "Hysteria" saw success Def Leppard and Steve could have only dreamed of. And in that time the pressure mounted on Steve with the long days months and years in the studio and the following tours. Steve began to drink heavily in these years. Following the "Hysteria" tour, while writing the "Adrenalize," the band ask Steve to take a break and some time to get himself back together. Steve made several trips to rehab centers, each time coming out, losing his will, and drinking more and more. Steve lost his battle to Alcohol on January 8, 1991. He is found dead in his London home.
Steve was a great musician and is greatly missed. However his legacy will go on forever. We miss you Steve, hopefully your deamons have finally given you up, Rest In Peace.
Phil Wilkie is credited for the name "Terror Twins." Wilkie an engineer on the "Pyromania" tour one night was invited by the two to go drinking. He said "I ain't going out with you two 'Terror Twins!' " The rest is history.
"..Aerosmith had the Toxic Twins, we had the Terror Twins." Joe Elliott
