Lorretta Cuke

Vegetable: Cucumber
Relation to VT: Friend of Bob and Larry’s
   Choreographer for Scallions
Singer in What We Have Learned Today song

Loretta Cuke is an old friend of Bob and Larry’s from Pugslyville University.  She has a passionate love for books and majored in Library Science.  She had a minor in choreography and designed the scallions dance for Oh No and later the Stuff Mart Rap.  Her other connection with Big Idea is that she is one of the singers of the, What We Have Learned Today song.  The song originated from her days of volunteering to teach Sunday school.  Lorretta also admits to having the hots for Larry, especially when he wears spandex, but Larry has yet to understand romance and considers Lorretta his best friend next to Bob.  She is also noted throughout the Veggie World as author of the classic rock tune, The Cucumber Rock.

Benny Cucumber

Vegetable: Cucumber
Relation to VT: Larry’s Brother
Name used with permission in Rack, Shack, and Benny.

Benny is the eldest of Larry’s many older brothers and is probably the one with the most impact on Larry.  Benny was Larry’s role model growing up.  When Larry played Benny in Rack, Shack, and Benny he simply remembered his brother and even asked permission to use his name.  Benny is also the father of Larry’s nephew, Barth.  Benny is vice president in the family business and often sends his son to visit his Uncle Larry.  We also suspect that the woman with the baby in Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed was Benny’s wife with his infant child.

Kenny Cucumber

Vegetable: Cucumber
Relation to VT: Larry’s Brother

Kenny is Larry’s only younger brother and the only one in the family goofier than Larry is.  This is due to him being hit with a rock as a child and going crazy.  Kenny was in the loony bin for a number of years until he finally recovered.  Larry used to protect his little brother from the bigger guys and usually got beaten in the process.

Butch, Mitch, and Marley

Vegetable: Cucumbers
Relation to VT: Larry’s Brothers
Suppliers of Larry’s Dance of the Cucumber outfit

Butch, Mitch, and Marley are three of Larry’s older brothers.  They organized a mission team to build houses in South America and were the ones to send Larry his sombrero and authentic Argentinean garb.

Doug and Harvey

Vegetable: Cucumbers
Relation to VT: Larry’s Brothers

Doug and Harvey are Larry’s other two brothers.  Both work in the family business.  Larry remembers them as the two who picked on him and Kenny the most.  Doug and Harvey are suspected to be the two male cucumbers in the Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed crowd scene.

Carrie and Chelsea

Vegetable: Cucumbers
Relation to VT: Larry’s Sisters

Carrie and Chelsea are Larry’s younger sisters.  Carrie is still in high school and is often bombarded by her teenage friends who are big fans of VeggieTales.  Chelsea is only 10 and is a big fan herself.

Mr. and Mrs. Cucumber

Vegetable: Cucumbers
Relation to VT: Larry’s Parents

Mom and Dad Cucumber have a lot to handle with a big family.  Larry’s mother is relieved to have most of her children move out of the house while his father is pleased to have his sons work in the family business, the Bumblyburg Plunger Factory.  How do you think Larry got his alter ego?  Larry had little connection with his busy father until one Father’s day when Dad Cucumber decided to recommit to Christ and spend more time with his family.  He visits each of his children regularly and watched the filming of Stand in Rack, Shack, and Benny.  This is why Larry was so happy to sing, “So if you have a question go ask your dad.”  He was so happy he tripped, but got right back up and kept singing.

The Cuke Family

Vegetable: Cucumber
Relation to VT: Lorretta’s Family
    Friends of Bob and Larry

Larry meets Lorretta’s family one summer when he and Bob are looking for work.  Her mother takes her two younger children to the library where Lorretta works and Bob and Larry follow them.  This is very fortunate, because the Judo experts are late and Lorretta must entertain the children, so she had Bob and Larry perform Dance of the Cucumber.  Lorretta’s family substitutes for Junior’s family with her little sister doing Junior’s part and her little brother leading some other kids as the dwarfs.  The children find them very entertaining.  Larry also met Lorretta’s twin sister, Lorella and amazingly, he could tell them apart.  Lorretta considered this a good sign.

Elizabeth “Beth” Tomato

Vegetable: Tomato
Relation to VT: Bob’s wife
Singer of What We Have Learned Today song
     Assistant Songwriter

Beth is another friend from college.  She is normally very shy, especially around Bob, but that soon changed.  Bob wrote the lyrics for most of the songs in VT during college, and Beth would write the music.  She is also a singer of the What We Have Learned Today song, but Bob doesn’t know that.  Otherwise, he wouldn’t get mad all the time.  No one knew who sang it except Phil and Mike’s wives who hired Beth and Lorretta to sing it.  Larry found out during the first Larry-Boy filming which is why he says, “I like that song.  Let it play.”  Bob and Larry were separated from Beth and Lorretta after the girls graduated and Bob had to let Kurt handle the music.  When they were reunited, Bob and Beth became engaged.  They were married after “Madam Blueberry” and were on their honeymoon during “Silly Songs 2” which is why Bob isn’t there.  Bob did have a talk with Archibald before he left and had Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps filmed at his bachelor party.  Bob and Beth are very happy together and returned just in time to see Archibald’s wedding

Josephine and Tony

Vegetable: Tomatoes
Relation to VT: Bob’s siblings.

Josephine and Tony are Bob’s younger siblings.  Josephine is a typical teenager who talks on the phone all the time, adores Arnold Schwartztomato, and groans everytime Bob shows up.  Tony is only seven and loves to have Bob tell him stories.  The Story of Flibber-o-loo is actually a bedtime story Bob would tell Tony.  Tony calls it, “The one about the shoe people.”

Mr. and Mrs. Tomato

Vegetable: Tomatoes
Relation to VT: Bob’s Parents

Bob is very close to his Christian parents.  His mother is often a source of embarrassment as she insists on giving Bob a kiss every time she sees him.  His dad simply gives him a pat on the back, though we don’t know how he does it without hands.  Both were pleased to find out that Bob had a profitable career with Big Idea and are fond of him and Larry both.

The Tomate Family

Vegetable: Tomatoes
Relation to VT: Bob’s in-laws

Bob and Larry met Beth’s family the same summer they met Lorretta’s.  Beth has four older sisters, one younger sister, and a baby brother.  Larry had never met a baby tomato before.  Bob couldn’t get Beth’s sisters to leave him alone, seeing as guy tomatoes are lacking in that part of the country.  Beth’s parents simply adore Bob and are grateful to have such a wonderful Christian son-in-law.

Jenny Gourdo

Vegetable: Gourd
Relation to VT: Jerry’s “girlfriend”
     Former employee of Mr. Lunt

Jenny Gourdo , according to Jimmy, is Jerry’s girlfriend.  She met the brothers when she worked at Mr. Lunt’s Burger Bell as a drive-through worker.  She had to straighten out Mr. Lunt as he would pick cheese up off the floor, brush it off, and use it.  She is an all out tomboy and after attending Pugslyville University, she joined the USA Women’s Soccer Team.  The team went to the Olympics and Jenny scored the winning goal, injuring herself in the process.  After seeing a VT video for the first time while she was recuperating, (which was Madam Blueberry) she recognized her former boss and Jerry and the others and decided to visit Big Idea.  She saw Larry first who only recognized her after the pelted him with a water gun, like she would in college.  Jerry was very happy to see her again and Jimmy was happy to tease Jerry again about his “girlfriend”.

Nichole Geurdenstien

Vegetable: Gourd
Relation to VT: Jenny and Jimmy’s Penpal
Costume provider and yodeling instructor for Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps.

Nichole is Jenny’s penpal from Switzerland.  Jenny had everyone thinking Nichole was a guy by having Nichole sign her letters, “Love Nick.”  You can imagine how jealous Jerry would get.  Nichole helped Jenny recuperate after her injury in the Olympics and was the one to show her Madame Blueberry.  Nichole visited America when Jenny reunited with Jimmy and Jerry.   Both were pleasantly surprised to find out that Nick was a girl.  Jerry was relieved and Jimmy was kind of lovestruck.  Jimmy and Nichole hit it off well.  While Nichole was in America, she gave Larry yodeling lessons (though she had no idea why he asked for them) and gave him some Swiss outfits.  When Nichole had to return to Switzerland, she gained another penpal, but would sign Jimmy’s letters, “Love Nichole.”  This gave Jerry something to tease Jimmy about for once.

Peter and Gordy Gourdo

Vegetable: Gourds
Relation to VT: Jenny’s brothers
   Friends of Jimmy and Jerry

Peter is Jenny’s older brother and a good friend of Jimmy and Jerry’s.  They are all Star Trek fans.  Jimmy would play Captain Kirk, Peter, Doctor McCoy, and Jerry, Mr. Spock.  Peter was the one who gave Jerry the Spock ears.  Jenny sometimes played Uhura, but pronounced it Uhuru (She did not do Nurse Chapel cuz she thinks she was a wimp) Jenny would flirt with Jerry only when he wore the ears because he wasn’t allowed to react.  Gordy, Jenny’s younger brother, would just sit aside as a bystander while the others were playing, but every once in a while, he had a minor role of an alien, Checkov, or Sulu.  When they were tired of being Star Trek they made up their own series called Gourds in Space!  Gordy can be seen as one of the children in Jr. and Laura’s class in Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed.

Mr. and Mrs. Gourd, Julie, Joe, and Jennifer

Vegetable: Gourds
Relation to VT: Jimmy and Jerry’s family

Mr. and Mrs. Gourd were glad to find their two eldest boys doing something profitable other than eating.  Their younger sister, Julie, is actually a very picky eater.  She often refers to Jimmy and Jerry as, “My two ugly brothers.”  Mr. Gourd is a military man and is away from home a lot.  Mrs. Gourd keeps busy with Jimmy and Jerry’s baby brother and sister, Joe and Jennifer.  Jimmy often says Baby Jennifer was named after Jerry’s girlfriend and Jerry says, “She’s not my girlfriend!  Jennifer is named after our aunt.”

Mrs. Lunt and Juanita

Vegetable: Decorative Gourds
Relation to VT: Mr. Lunt’s wife and daughter

Juanita Lunt has little to do with VT.  She attends Westmont University in CA.  Her father sends her funds and uses his VT paycheck to take care of her schooling.  Juanita was Jimmy Gourd’s prom date in high school, but they didn’t hit it off since Juanita can’t cook.  Jimmy thought she’d be like her mother but she takes after her dad.  Mrs. Lunt is a great cook, and loves it when her husband sings love songs to her.

Alfred, Angela, and Abigail Asparagus

Vegetable: Asparagus
Relation to VT: Archibald’s Family

Archibald’s parents are the only ones we named.  Alfred and Angela are rather carefree and lighthearted and are devout Christians as is Archibald’s sister Abigail.  Abigail refers to Archie as, “My geeky brother” but loves him anyway.  Archibald’s parents  were the only ones not to attend his wedding since they were still lost in Africa.  (refer to “Why Archibald Doesn’t like The Song of the Cebu”)  Once reunited, the family forgave him and all were happy.

Chester Sparagus

Vegetable: Asparagus
Relation to VT: Lovey’s Brother
  Archibald’s brother-in-law

Lovey discovered her brother when he showed up in the hospital.  Tests had to be done to find a match for one of his organs and it was discovered that he and Lovey matched.  Further tests were done to verify that they were indeed related.  He was the one to give Lovey away at her wedding to Archibald, even though he was in a wheelchair.  He has no idea what his sister sees in Archie, but he approved of the marriage.

Pastor Squash

Vegetable: Squash
Relation to VT: Friend of Bob and Larry

Pastor Squash is the campus minister at Pugslyville U.  He was consulted when anyone at the college needed spiritual help.  Those who turned to him for help included Larry, Archibald, and the Scallions.  After Larry’s first Sunday in Church, he and Bob were invited to the Squash’s for dinner and Mrs. Squash and her daughter Christine made them yummy meatloaf.  He is still a close friend and was the one to marry Bob and Beth, and Archibald and Lovey.

Bush

Vegetable: Broccoli
Relation to VT: Bob’s former roommate

Bush was Bob’s roommate his freshman year, before he met Larry.  Bush wasn’t a very upstanding student or a Christian.  Bob tried to witness to him, but Bush didn’t listen.  Bush was later expelled for causing the fire that nearly destroyed Gourd Hall.  It was Bob who rang the Bell of Gourd Hall to warn everyone.  Bush wound up in jail but was later reformed when Archibald visited the prison.  When he was released, he visited Archibald and reunited with his son B.J. and B.J.’s mother, Helen.

B.J.

Vegetable: Broccoli
Relation to VT: Junior’s friend
     Temporarily in Archibald’s care

B.J. was a boy very self-conscious about his looks.  He had been separated from his parents for so long, he had never seen another broccoli.  He always wore a hat to cover his head.  Archibald took him in for a while and introduced him to Junior and the two became fast friends.  Bush later showed his son that being a broccoli is nothing to be ashamed of and that no one would make fun of him, especially Junior.  It took a while to find  B.J.’s mother, but all were reunited in the end.

Helen

Vegetable: Broccoli
Relation to VT: B.J.’s mother

Helen was found in the slums of Chicago and was in pretty bad shape.  But after she was brought to a hospital, she was healed quite thoroughly.  Helen was glad to be reunited with B.J. and regretted having to put him in an orphanage.  It took a while, but she eventually forgave Bush.  Helen also became saved and she and Bush have joint custody of B.J.

Zach E. Nezzer

Vegetable: Zucchini
Relation to VT: Mr. Nezzer’s brother

Zach is yet another Nezzer brother, but he is twenty years younger than the other two.  He was in Bob’s class at Pugslyville U, where his brother Nebby K. was president.  Zach was on the soccer team along with Bob, Larry, Jimmy, Jerry, Jenny, the scallions, Cristoffe, and Leonard the carrot (Laura’s Dad).  Zach had a crush on Lorretta Cuke for a time, but she ignored him for Larry.  He married a zucchini after graduation.

Virgiline Nezzer

Vegetable: Zucchini
Relation to VT: Nebby K. Nezzer’s wife

Virgiline attended Pugslyville U back in the 60’s while the older Nezzer brother’s did.  Both were attracted to the town beauty and often fought over her.  She disappeared her senior year and the Nezzer Brothers made up.  Twenty years later she returned, along with a friend, and told Nebby K. she always liked him best.  They were married at Homecoming the next year.

Pauline and Valleri Nezzer

Vegetable: Zucchini
Relation to VT: Wally P. Nezzer’s wife and sister-in-law

Pauline was the friend Virgiline brought back with her when she reunited with the Nezzer Bros.  She was a member of the Zucci family, which adopted Virgiline while she was missing.  Pauline married Wally P. the year after Nebby K. and Virgiline married.  Valleri was also a member of the Zucci family and met Nebby K at a family reunion.  He gave her a campus visit of Pugslyville U where she met Zach.  They were married after Zach graduated.

Jeanne, Yvette, and Mari

Vegetable: ChickPeas
Relation to VT: Friends of Jean-Claude, Phillipe, and Cristoffe

Actually, they’re girl French peas.  Phillipe, Jean-Claude, and Cristoffe left them behind when they left France to live with their American relatives.  Phillipe’s petite amie (girlfriend) was Yvette, the blond, and they were heartbroken to leave each other.  Cristoffe is very shy and knows little English but his fellow peas know how much he had a crush on Jeanne, the out-going redhead.  Jean-Claude and Mari, the brunette, fought a lot, but always made up.  Mari was the most upset at the French peas leaving them.  The girls managed to go to America when Phillipe saved up enough money for Yvette and her family.  Jeanne and Mari had also saved up to come with their families so Phillipe was surprised to find all of them greeting him in New York.  He in turn, surprised Jean-Claude and Cristoffe when he returned with all the ChickPeas.  Needless to say, the French Peas have never been more difficult to work with, now that they have their girls.

Vegetable: Scallions
Relation to VT: Friends of the Scallions

The girl scallions are a trio of sisters who have their own band, the Scalliettes. The tallest is Fermata, an excessive talker.  The next is Harmony and small one is Calliope.  They began as a struggling rock group in Malibu CA, but then got a scholarship to Pugslyville U, thanks to the Scallions and Phil Winklestien who discovered them while on a choir trip.  They were most often seen practicing in the music hall.  They have tried to get jobs with Big Idea but were always outdone by their rival group, the Asparagus Singers.  They became the back up band for that great Christian artist, Amy Grape and later became famous with their own group.
