A valuable lesson Amanda learned in college.

College professors are useful to all
Teaching History and English and Science and Math
But the most important lesson that I've learned so far
I learned from a friend I call Zach

I was called to the mission field not long ago
Sometimes I still wonder why
I love God and all people and will travel the world
But I'm also incredibly shy

Wednesday evening at the homeless shelter
I stay in the back and scrub pots full of greese
They say I need not do the difficult job
But there's one even harder for me

And I hear Zach say
"You need to go out there and talk to the homeless
You're washing the dishes back here every week
How will you be a missionary
If you won't even learn how to speak?"

Each Friday night we go out on the street
and talk about God to those milling about
I stand back and watch and listen intently
But I never will open my mouth

Then I hear Zach say
"The reason we do this is showing God's love
To those that we meet as we walk
How will you be a missionary
If you won't even learn how to talk?"

And then one day it hit me
But God had to tell me Himself
Zachary knows what he's talking about
I'll never make it in Africa
Or anywhere else
If I don't learn to open my mouth

Bible college is great and I'm learning a lot
In History and Bible and Missions and Greek
But they'll never be of much use at all
Until I will learn how to speak
