Avery Michael From: Abbott, James F [AbbottJF@az1.bp.com] Sent: Monday, 26 April 1999 18:40 To: Avery Michael; 'Sam & Angela Mackie (E-mail)'; 'Simon' Subject: JAMin. Preparation is the Key Preparation is the key. Melbourne, 26 April. In motorsport circles it is often said that a well prepared team will out perform a team who is not. It makes sense really. So why has JAM hopeful James Abbott left his preparation to the last week? About a month ago his car was stolen from outside his house, inside the boot, his golf clubs. Tomorrow Abbott will be the proud owner of a new set of untried clubs. How far will he hit the five iron, seven iron etc. of his new Cobra 2 clubs? He doesn't have very long to find out. Gibbons has a rather more relaxed approach. His first round back after a long lay off (resting) is usually one out-of-the-box. Rounds two through five show a steady decline. Gibbons has played only two rounds since his summer lay off so the decline may be minimal after he scorched 92 at The Dunes recently. Mackie has played PLENTY. Don't be fooled by his immaculate use of language to put some number on the total of rounds played, score conditions, results etc., the truth is he has strolled around eighteen holes more than any other JAMer over the past few months. One thing can be sure as shylock, if his wife didn't object he would sleep with, eat with, shower and perhaps teach with a golf club in his hand. Avery too has wielded the irons on a regular basis, the difference this year is the realisation that talking it up will cost you strokes. Word is everyone from Ledbetter to the Golden Bear have visited the Avery to help this bird win back-to-back JAMs, a feat yet to be realised by the four. So where does this leave the rare to medium rare Abbott? "I'm not about to take a grilling" he said "I'm due, consider this putting in a brand new engine on race day" GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES.
