Holder Streaks Tocumwal, April, 30 Current Jar holder Mic Avery challenged all-comers to take the Jar from his tubby little hands today. Shooting from where the sun don't shine Avery Shot an unblemished 96, 8 under his allotted handicap. Playing against Abbott, Avery made sure the door was shut in Abbots face early, streaking to a seven point lead at the turn. Although Abbott fought back with an immaculate 42 on the back nine the horse, barn and farmyard had already bolted. Avery was as solid as the Bank of England, Abbott's game however, resembled Barrings Bank. Mackie and Gibbons fought out a closely contested battle with Gibbons finishing one point clear of Mackie. Both showed glimpses of the form that has seen each hold the Jar high on Sunday's past yet neither today took such a hold as Avery. They will both need to find better form if they wish to challenge for the Jar. Mackie may wish to review Harvey Pennicks 100 tips on putting, as 42 putts don't cut it here baby. Tocumwal offered little to test the four Jammers, fairways were wide, yet seldom hit, the greens kind and not taken advantage of and all par threes were safe as houses with all the Jammers missing to hit the green off the tee on every attempt. All points on offer for closest to the pin will wait until tomorrow. Jam results Day 1 Tocumwal. Avery - 96 - 14.5 pts Gibbons - 106 - 10 pts Mackie - 98 - 9 (1 pt for straightest drive) Abbott - 89 - 4.5 pts (1 pt for longest drive) * see Not so longest drive Ends
