Secret Base!
One of the things about Everquest is their attention to detail and their careful craftsmanship of each zone. Unlike UO or AC, you know what EQ zone you're in just by the look of it. That's cool. I assumed that Anarchy Online would be similiar to the other two, in that zones would look more or less like one another, be less individualistic. That's only partly true... the zones are so huge that the individual details are not always evident until you run across them. The middle of one desert looks very similar to the middle of another desert.
However, there are cool details and things to discover in every zone, from camps of friendly jawa-like critters to cool castles and secret military bases. I was travelling from Aegean Expanse (out the East Gate of Old Athen) into Aegean itself, when I noticed on my map that the top of the mountain I was skirting had something on top of it.
What's really cool about this is you need a clan map to notice it, and I don't think Omnis or Newts can get those. At least, they don't get them automatically.
Anyway it took me a little bit of exploring to figure out how to get up there, but when I saw this waterfall I knew I probably was on the right track.
Behind the waterfall were some stairways leading up through a very narrow defile.
There were some twists and turns, and then this cool tunnel.
The exit of the tunnel led to a small base. There were insurance and reclaim terminals and even a bank, but no mission booths or shops that I could see. Too bad, it would make a great base of operations otherwise. ^_^
I did go ahead and use the insurance booth, nice to be nearby in the event of an untimely death. If you're a clansman in the area, check this place out. I love secret hideaway forts!
