| Jake's College Update (for those of you who care) |
| 09/06/03 OK, here goes. I'm a high school senior (in NC) and would LOVE to be an English Major, Medieval & Renaissance History Major, Music Major, or some combination of the three. I am applying to several schools, but first and foremost Rice University Early Decision and University of Georgia Early Action. I have to have these off by November 1 and will hear back from both by December 15th (right in the middle of exam-week, lol). So then I'll have until January 1st to, if I am accepted to Rice, give a yea or nay. So I'd better get busy on finishing those essays! I'll report back later when I have something substantial to say. 10/26/03 Well, I finished Rice's application yesterday and, with 100 more words on an essay, I will be done with Georgia's as well. Man, this weekend has been hectic. I wonder if all families get this intense around this time of the senior year or if it's just mine. 12/12/03 5:32 pm It's right down to the wire. I was supposed to hear back from University of Georgia and Rice University today. Georgia's could be accessed at 5:00pm, the website reported, but I checked it at about 4:55 and saw that the decision was already posted. Whohoo, I got in! There were even fireworks celebrating for me. :) The page before that was really funny, though. It told me to brace myself and make sure I was in a private place before opening it. Anyway, Rice was supposed to post their decisions at 5:00 -- Central Time, dangit! So I'm biding my time until 6:00 here in NC . . . . This is going to be a long and stressful thirty minutes. I have a funny story, though. I went on a college tour this summer and visited a bunch of schools. I gave all the schools basic tapes of my cello playing; they weren't auditions or anything, just something to give the music departments an idea of who I am. Anyway, I got a note from Emory yesterday telling me "Thanks for the audition" and "Congratulations on your acceptance into the Emory School of Music!" I mean, I haven't even applied there, and was never planning on it! But, you know, whatever. It makes for a funny story. 6:27 pm That's just cruel, you know, to say that something this important will be posted at 6:00pm . . . and it still hasn't been. My stomach has had enough of twisting itself into knots. Sorry you all had to see the super-hyper-tense-freak-out-scared-peeless side of me :) 10:36 pm I ended up giving up on the Rice page in order to not be late for my youth group's Christmas party. I left home at 6:30 and was happily distracted by presents, food, and friends for several hours until I got home around 10:00. My parents were on their way home from dinner, so I called them on the cell phone and opened the page while on the phone. And (drum roll, please) I GOT IN TO RICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I can happily abandon all other colleges and ship all my money off to my dream-school! Hehe. Life is good. |
