| Ever since reading this series two or three years ago, it has stood out in my mind as one of the most incredible stories I had ever heard. The characters are all memorable and lovable. The story is full of life and ingenuity. I highly recommend this series to anyone who wants a tale of heartfelt appreciation for humanity. Richard Cypher is a woodsman of the non-magical land west of the Midlands. He and Kahlan Amnell travel through terrible peril to destroy a dark king. Through the series, these characters are developed beautifully, along with other colorful characters and plot twists. Everything is resolved nicely in each book, but with room left for a sequal. I am always content at reaching the conclusion of one of these books. I have certainly not done this series justice in my synopsis here, but everything that occurrs in the later books depends on one piece of fact that does not arise until the final pages of the first book, so I'll not spoil it for you. I have noticed a distinct similarity between this series and Robert Jordan's. Here's what I say to that, though: Goodkind took the basis of Jordan's world, and perfected it into a story that teaches love and comradery. Even though I realize that some of it is bound to be unoriginal, it is, in my humble opinion, the superior storyline. As I said, this series is a wonderful read, if you are looking for a high fantasy with diverse characters and a fulfilling story. I give this series an A+. |
