by Sandra Sirasch
My name is Sandra Sirasch I am a lecturer at the University of Newcastle here in Australia. I have coached Division IV teams for the past three years and have brought two of these to World Finals in 1996 and 1995. Due to work commitments I was unable to attend in 1997. I have also coached school-aged teams for five years.
I was very pleased to read your Division IV page on the Web. I am presently recruiting students who are interested in attending World Finals in 1998. I am keen to develop contacts with others such as yourself who are working with Division IV. My students benefited greatly from the competition and the contacts at World Finals. Many of them have graduated and are now teachers who are coaching school-aged teams.
Australia is to host the first Asia Pacific Carnival in January 1999. We are already working on that carnival. I would be interested to hear your views on the possible participation of Division IV at the carnival. There could also be some educational contact after the carnival if it was seen as useful.
As soon as I get my group of students organized for the World Finals I will involve them in the Web page and try to make contact with others who may be competing. I hope that Division IV remains part of the main OM World Finals. It is a great experience, especially for my students as they are training to be teachers and to being able to see what can be achieved by the younger OMers is an education in itself.
