Goldstein suggests sex holiday; job hunt in a rut - 9 March 2004

Another day passes, and permanent employment seems farther away than ever.  That being said, I just remembered that a friend called this morning with a job lead, but I’ve yet to write to his contact.  As for my career counsellor, she’s moving house and is extremely busy this week, providing a useful excuse for me to lay about doing nothing.  If I remember, I’ll email that contact after this entry.

My mate Goldstein has suggested we head down to Jakarta this weekend.  The last time we did this was in May 2001, well before 9/11, and we had an excellent good time screwing hookers, popping pills, and generally debauching ourselves.   Now, though, my finances give me pause, and I’m not all that keen on hookers these days anyway.

After Mandarin class today I spent a few hours wandering the dismal shopping centers near Sim Lim Square for a pirated software shop; I’m keen to get a cheap copy of FrontPage in order to create a website for these entries.  Damn, damn annoying the lack of pirated software in this town.   Miss New, my potential new lover if all goes well, says she can give me a copy of the software on CD Rom, but I’m never comfortable when chicks try to offer a technical solution.

As for the ethical issue of pirated software, I’d like to tell Mr. Gates that most of my software is, indeed, legally purchased.  He can make up for the S$200 I save by acquiring a pirated version of FrontPage by, perhaps, reducing the number of coasters he carries on his private jet.

I really should be busting my ass on the job and freelance writing front, but I’m feeling damn lazy and couldn’t really give a damn.  At least the urge to get beastly drunk isn’t too strong right now.  As for the copywriting gigs, I read in the paper that the industry is very cautious for this year given the weakness in 2003.  Terrific.
