Obsolescence is a sneaky and dangerous tactic used by technology
companies that produce consumer technology
to fool their costumers
into believing that the products they bought from them are obsolete
and that they must buy new ones.
One example is Apple's proven
“slowdowngate”,
in which Apple deliberatly produced software updates that slowed
down
their users devices, like iPhones iPads, iMacs and
Macbooks.
No company is safe from doing this though, and
pretty much every major tech company is guilty of at least attempting
to
do this.
