Leendred's (Leonard) first wife Maria Rasch died in the Netherlands about 1858.

Leenderd (Leonard) married Jacoba (Cora) Walters in 1859 in the Netherlands. Cora was a widow as her first husband died in 1858. Cora and her first husband had nine children but all of them died in infancy.
Leenderd (Leonard) and Cora had the following children:
  • Cornelius (1864-1937) never married.

  • Peter (1865 - died early 1900).

  • Martha (1865 - ) married John Tripp


  • In 1865 Leenderd (Leonard) and Cora came to America brining all their children except Dirk who had married and died in the Netherlands. It took the family 52 days to cross the ocean. The family settled in Jamestown, Michigan where relatives had preceded them but soon removed to Holland, Michigan.

    Leenderd (Leonard)) and Cora left Holland Michigan and came to Missaukee County in June 1871. They took the grand rapids and Indiana Railroad to Reed City, Michigan. They had to travel by OX teams to continue their trip to Missaukee County as the railroad ended at Reed City. Only Leonard L, Cornelius, Peter and Martha came with their parents.

    On December 5, 1877 Leenderd (Leonard) and Cora bought 80 acres from their son Nicholas. This land was described as the Northeast quarter of the Southwest quarter and the Northwest quarter of the Southeast quarter of Section 20, Township 21N of Range 7W in Riverside Tpownship, Missaukee county consisting of 80 acres.

    Leenderd (Leonard) died on December 29, 1879 at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 0 days. He was buried in missaukee county. Cora remained on the farm which she supervised, and cared for Cornelius who was partially handicapped but who did the farm work. Cora died on April 22 1927 stated that she was born in november 1823 and was now 104 years old.
