Description: Chapel Hill is on the southeast corner of Patterson and 28th Streets, one of the busiest intersections in the city of Grand Rapids. There is no entrance on 28th Street; however, there are several paved drives off Patterson that run throughout with shady maple trees lining most. It appears that at one time the entrance may have been right at the corner. This is an extremely large cemetery with thousands of sites. There are no above-ground headstones. Most grave markers are bronze, and are set into the ground. There are several mausoleums. Trees and shrubs are scattered throughout. The cemetery is divided into different sections with names such as "Divine Promise Garden," "Old Rugged Cross Garden," Good Shepherd Garden," etc. Each section has some type of statuary, an example of which is shown in one of the photos. The cemetery has a brick office building in the style of a home, and office hours are 8:30-5 Monday-Friday, and 9-Noon Saturday.
