Forrest is our "Little Man". Standing at only 13.63 inches tall, he's small in stature but big in "heart"! Forrest was whelped April 28, 2004 as the "runt" of a litter of six and had a very rough start. When he failed to thrive, his mother rejected him. He was given to a surrogate mother who had a young litter of two and she raised him as her own. As he grew stronger, he liked to play with his littermates but he would have to run to keep up with them. His breeder, Debbie Smithson of Crystalove Kennels, would yell "Run, Forrest!" (a la Forrest Gump) and the name stuck. He came to live with us when he was 9 weeks old.
We quickly discovered that Forrest's favorite activity was lap sitting! He's very low-drive and likes nothing better than to watch our other shelties play, breaking in occasionally with a sharp "YIP"! He loves to sing "Happy Birthday" and is much in demand for his singing voice. His other favorite activity is to play "WHEEEEE!", which calls him onto your lap.
Forrest performs in AKC and UKC obedience and in AKC and NADAC agility.
In the summer of 2004, Forrest suffered a compound fracture of all four metatarsals on his right rear foot. He was casted for 8 1/2 weeks and the foot did not set properly. Forrest is learning to walk, run and jump on his new foot. Whether or not he ever goes back into the obedience or even agility ring is up to him. But don't put it past him -- this is a little guy with a lot of heart.
