Prologue: Getting to SFO... It's time to go to New Zealand!

August 5, 2005
Time: 8:49 p.m.

After a whirlwind day at work, I cruised rather quickly with the hefty suitcase up New Montgomery to the BART station, arriving only moments before the train carrying Lav arrived. We found each other pretty quickly, and off we were to SFO International! As we waited in line to check in, it was interesting to see all the different types of folks who were on our flight: young, old, backpackers, fancy travelers, Americans, Australians... it was all over the map. New Zealand is going to be awesome! I hope Lav doesn't explode from all the excitement when we land!

We engaged in an altogether-too-quick gorging at "Ebisu" of the San Francisco Airport (which shares only in name, not in food quality, to its sister restarant), we're sitting at the gate waiting to board. Across from us, there is a human jukebox guitar player playing a montage-type mix of American rock classics. He's keeping things lively as we digest the rice, curry, tonkatsu, sushi and beer we guzzled only moments ago.

This is EXCITING! Our first international trip since the honeymoon. We've heard pretty good things about the service on board Air New Zealand, but it might not matter... we're in the second to last row of "Pacific" class, deep in the pit. No worries though, for we have the iRiver, the laptop, some movies and lots of time to sleep and energize for the journey ahead. We're supposed to board in 3 minutes, so that's it for now!
