Day 12: Planes, Trains and Automobiles (or something close)

August 18, 2005

Today we headed off on a tour to Milford Sound, a fjord carved out by the last ice age and one of the most visited attractions in New Zealand because of its incredible scenery. There really isn't much commentary for today... the scenery speaks for itself.

We took a tiny 7-person plane there, flying over the Southern Alps and getting some pretty spectacular views, some of the most amazing sights we've ever seen. Our cool pilot also took us pretty close to some of the mountains and made some hard turns to make the flight even more exciting.

Once we arrived, we hopped onto a ferry to take a 90-minute cruise around the sound.

After being completely floored by the magnitude of Milford Sound, we headed back by bus to Queenstown. Funny thing, we ended up on a bus that was 90% filled by a Japanese tour group. The drive back had some pretty awesome scenery as well.

All in all, the multiple modes of transportation was a pretty sweet way to see Milford Sound!
