The third in the Jack/Jo sap filled series!

'They're back!' Ben smiled, as Jo and Jack came through the door.
'Welcome back,' Maggie smiled. 'How was the honeymoon?'
'My lips are sealed,' Jo answered.
'That good?' Maggie asked.
Jo sent her a look.
'Welcome back Lawson..and uh, Lawson,' Tom smiled. 'My office please.'
They entered the room.
'Inspector Falcon Price believes that this has snuck up on him.'
'Boss! We've been seeing each other for two years, engaged a year ago and just got married! He's got to be kidding!'
'Unfortunately he isn't. He's coming to visit and wants to see how professionial you are at work. That includes no kissing in the locker room and that kind of thing. He does have the authority to transfer you both if he doesn't believe you're working properly.'
Jo groaned and Jack sighed.
'You don't need to worry. I'll tell you when he's coming and then it's strictly professional. Okay?'
Jo nodded. 'Yes boss.'
'You're worried,' Jack said, putting his footy shirt on.
'I'm that obvious?' Jo asked, hopping into bed.
'Only when your forehead is creased and you have that worried look on your face,' Jack replied, hopping in beside her.
'I'm just worried about the Inspector. I mean, what if he transfers one of us!? He could transfer me back to Melbourne and we'd see each other only on holidays! That'd be horrible!'
Jo was about to finish her tirade when Jack clamped his hand over her mouth.
'Stop worrying!' he smiled. 'We'll just take each day as it comes.'
Jo sighed.
'Morning Tom,' Inspector Falcon Price said, walking into the station.
'Good morning Inspector,' Tom replied, hiding his paper under the counter.
'Are they here yet?'
'No Inspector. I expect them any moment.'
At that moment, Jo and Jack entered the station. The second they saw the Inspector, the laughing and joking ceased.
'Constable Lawson. And Constable...Lawson.'
'Inspector Price,' Jo said.
'Now, I know you both know what I'm here about so there is no time or need for pleasantaries. Just go about your business and act as if I'm not here.'
'Morning!' Ben's cheerful voice rang out from the back door.
'Morning Senior Constable,' the Inspector greeted him.
Ben caught the looks on everyone's faces and just smiled at the inspector pleasantly.
'Is it just me that he annoys?' Maggie asked PJ, as she entered his office.
'Do you need an answer for that?' PJ replied.
Maggie shrugged and placed the file on his table. 'The file you wanted sir.'
'Jack and Jo seem a little tense around each other don't they?' PJ commented.
'Wouldn't you be when your job could be in jeopardy?' Ben asked, entering the office.
'I'm going to go now,' Maggie said. 'We look like we're hiding from him.'
'We are,' Ben replied, as she left.
Inspector Falcon Price stared through the window as Jack and Jo left for the day. He turned to Tom who was shuffling through some papers.
'Did they know I was coming today?'
Tom peered over his glasses. 'Sir, I didn't even know you were coming today.'
The inspector hmphed. 'They worked very professionally.'
'I know,' Tom replied, peering down at his papers again.
'Sergeant, your members often congregate at the Imperial after work, correct?'
'Yes sir. I was going to join them as soon as I finished this paperwork.'
'Finish it. I'm going to tag along.'
Maggie and Jo were laughing at the table while Jack, PJ and Ben ordered the drinks. Jack kept staring over at the girls every time they laughed loudly. 'Do you think that I'm the topic?' he asked.
Ben smiled. 'Without a doubt.'
'Great,' Jack groaned.
PJ handed him Jo's drink. 'Then let's go and break it up.'
The boys sat down and Jo smiled at Jack.
'What?' he asked.
'Nothing,' she replied.
Jack sent PJ and Ben a worried look.
'Where's Julie tonight Ben?' Maggie asked.
Ben smiled. Julie was his fiance. She had two kids, a boy and a girl and was a widow. They had got engaged about three weeks ago. 'She had to go down to Melbourne to finalise the sale of the house. She'll be back in a couple of days.'
'You mean we might have another set of newlyweds on our hands?' PJ smiled, gesturing to Jack and Jo who were pursuing an extra-curricular activity.
A throat cleared and Jack and Jo pulled apart, somewhat unwillingly.
'Mind if we join you?' the Inspector asked.
Tom sent them all an apologetic look.
Jo crawled into bed and sighed. 'I hate him,' she said as Jack got in beside her.
'At least he's not transferring us.'
Jo shrugged. 'He spent half the night talking about his family!'
Jack smiled slightly. He noticed something and frowned. 'Jo? Are you feeling okay?'
'Has anyone seen our two Constables?' Tom groaned.
'Sorry boss,' Ben replied. 'Haven't seen either of them since last night. Jo was pretty upset though.'
Tom frowned and at the same time, Jack rushed through the door. His eyes were red and puffy.
'Lawson, my office,' Tom said, as PJ and Ben stared at him strangely.
'I know I'm late boss and I can explain...'
Tom waved his hand. 'What's the matter Lawson? You look like someone has just died.'
Jack sighed. 'Last night, when we got home, Jo was looking pretty tired and she said she didn't feel well. She..she had a miscarriage.'
Tom placed a hand on his shoulder. 'I'm so sorry Lawson. Is there anything I can do? Obviously you can have as much time of as you need.'
Jack nodded. 'Thanks boss.'
'Where is she?'
'At the hospital. I'm on my way there now.'
Tom nodded and watched him go.
Jack walked into the room Jo was in and went straight and hugged her.
'Everything's going to be fine,' Jack told her, as she cried.
Everything was very quiet in the station two days later when Jack entered it. He received a sympathetic look from Ben and was then summoned to Tom's office.
'How are you?' Tom asked, looking him in the eye.
'Fine Boss. I just want to get back to work.'
'How's Jo?'
'Tired.'
'Jack...'
'Please Boss.'
Tom nodded.
Jack wandered back into reception and headed for the locker room. Maggie noticed how sad he looked, and the bags under his eyes. She took a deep breath and followed him.
'Jack,' she said, entering the room.
'Yeah?' he replied.
'Can we talk for a second?'
Jack nodded. He was too tired to argue.
'Jack, why are you here instead of at home with Jo? The boss said you didn't have to be.'
'She doesn't want me around. She's cross.'
Jack, two weeks after I went into witness protection, I had a miscarriage. I never told PJ. I thought he would be worried enough with me in witness protection. That was the biggest mistake of my life. Jack, going through it together is hard, but going through it alone is almost impossible.'
Jack stared into space for a moment then kissed her on the cheek. 'Tell the boss I'll see him when my leave time is up.' He left and Maggie smiled
Jo lay curled up in the blankets of their bed. Jack stood in the doorway and watched her.
'You're home,' she said quietly, her gaze slowly fixing on him.
Jack nodded. 'I went to work and I couldn't work. How are you feeling?'
'Fine,' Jo replied.
Jack moved and sat on the bed next to her. 'I want to apologise.'
Jo's eyes widened. 'Apologise? What for?'
'Instead of being here with you, I've been finding excuses to get out of here. I don't mean to.'
Jo sat up further and stared at him. 'Love you,' she said, their lips meeting.
Maggie grinned at PJ, who, after a long days work was fast asleep on the couch. She felt an overwhelming surge of love for this man, who had fought so hard for her love. And had stuck through thick and thin, Robbie, and Mick. PJ grunted slightly and rolled over...and promptly fell out of the bed. Maggie couldn't help herself, she burst out laughing.
'Gee, thanks a lot Mags,' PJ told her, picking himself up.
Maggie just laughed even more. 'I'm sorry, PJ,' she spluttered through her giggles, 'but the look on your face when you fell out was priceless!'
PJ stood up and loomed over her. 'Mags..'
'Now, PJ,' Maggie said, backing up a bit. 'Don't do it.'
'This?' PJ asked, tackling her to the floor. He quickly began the task of tickling her senseless.
'PJ!' Maggie cried. 'Cut it out!'
'Cut what out?' PJ asked, tickling her unmercifully. 'And what's the magic word?'
'Cut it out,' Maggie began, and poked him. PJ yelped. 'Before I hurt you,' she finished.
'That wasn't nice, Mags,' PJ told her.
'Neither is half tickling me to death,' she told him, giving him one of her infamous looks.
PJ looked down at her face and smiled at how innocent and good she looked. Hmph. Well he knew better. He kissed her softly.
'You don't fight fair PJ,' Maggie told him.
'You complaining?' PJ asked, kissing her again.
'Not at all,' Maggie replied.
Tom smiled to himself. Parr..no Lawson and Lawson were getting back on track and were both back at work. PJ and Maggie were fast preparing for their wedding and he and Ben were bachelors of the moment. However..he had a feeling Ben might not remain that way for too much longer. He loved Mt Thomas.
