August 2004, Part 3
Mom and Lacey stayed dry on the pier as Dad and I played on the beach.

Tropical Storm Gaston hit Charleston on the morning of August 29, 2004, packing very gusty winds and a lot of rain. Downtown Charleston had a peak wind gust of 82 mph, the Isle of Palms recorded 81 mph. And at the Charleston International Airport just down the road from my apartment, winds peaked at 55 mph.
Mom, Dad, Lacey and I went to Folly Beach on Friday, August 27. Dad had a great time flying a kite.  Fortunately for Dad, Tropical Storm Gaston was forming off the coast supplying enough of a breeze for the kite to fly well.
Thankfully the effects were not felt very hard here. The power flickered on and off for several hours, and a few limbs came down around the complex.
