Truths That I Abridged
Kevin Coleman
Don't, you said;
Don't tell me this was a mistake;
don't throw me away
as though I were some battery
you suspect has lost its charge.
Where has your heart gone, you asked;
where has it fled and to whom,
that heart that once was mine?
Don't make that gesture.
Don't cast your eyes aside--
don't you dare.
You look at me dammit
and tell me why.
Lips were thick with guilt;
eyes (those cowards) would not follow orders;
my voice, traitorous and shuffling,
whispered on the sly
every single truth that I abridged.
I am the best that you will ever find,
you said and drove away.
Okay, Ill admit it. You were right.
I hope you're happy.
You were right.
Now lift this curse and let me up.
