| The degree programme of
M.Sc. Economics will be completed on earning 60 required
credits. The students must pass a minimum of 57 credits
of courses and 3 credits of oral examination. There is a
scheme of compulsory and optional courses whereby students
will earn 33 credits from 11 compulsory courses and 24 credits
from 8 optional courses.
The students will register in oral examination in their
last semester, which in normal cases would be the 4th semester.
The Chairman shall appoint a panel from amongst the faculty
members who will conduct oral examination of the registered
students after the terminal

M.Phil
|
| General:
1. M.Phil. Programme shall be open only to persons selected
as Junior Research Assistants (JRAs) by the University.
2. The requirements for the M.Phil degree shall normally
be completed within four consecutive semesters.
3. The course credits shall normally be completed within
the first two semesters.
4. A JRA must register in at least 50% of the credit courses
in the first semester and the remaining credits in the second
semester.
Coursework and Research Requirements:
5. The requirements for the M. Phil degree shall comprise
of 60 credit hours of coursework and dissertation.
6. The coursework requirement for JRAs shall be 24 credits
to be earned from 8 courses of 3 credit each at the 600
level The JRAs shall earn 15 credits from 5 compulsory courses
namely, Advanced Microeconomics I, Advanced Microeconomics
II, Advanced Macroeconomics I, Advanced Macroeconomics II
and Applied Econometrics. Nine credits will be earned from
3 optional courses to be offered by the Department from
the approved list of optional courses given below.
7. A dissertation of26 credits based on research shall normally
be completed by the end of the fourth semester.
8. All courses shall be of 3 credit hours and having 100
marks, of which 50 marks shall be for sessional testes)/
Assignment (s)/term paper while the remaining 50 marks shall
be reserved for the terminal examination.

Linking of M Phil With Ph.D.
|
| At the end of M.Phil coursework,
the Department may allow JRA(s) to switch from M.Phil program
to PhD programme provided they have earned at least 65%
marks in M.Phil coursework and have the required potential
for PhD research.

Ph.D.
|
| 1.A PhD student will be
required to complete course work of up to 24 credit hours
if he/she does not hold an M.Phil. or equivalent degree,
2.A PhD student shall be required to pass written comprehensive
examination in economic theory and Econometrics and oral
examination in their respective areas of research early
in the PhD programme for confirmation of his/her formal
admission, If the student does not pass the written comprehensive
examination in first attempt the PhD Committee of the Department
may give him one more chance, The registration of a PhD
student shall be deemed as cancelled if he/she docs not
pass the comprehensive examination even in the second attempt.
3. After passing the comprehensive examination, but before
the submission of his/her thesis, a rhO student will give
one seminar on topic relevant to his field of research,
4. For all other matter's, guidance would be sought from
the Rules and Regulations, relating to PhD degree, of the
Quaid-i-Azam University.
