LinkSearch version 1.0

For the latest information and help for LinkSearch , see my web page at http://www.worldy.com/~jahansoz

This is the first release of LinkSearch with the core technology only. All standard disclaimers apply about using this software at your own risk, etc.

LinkSearch is written entirely in the Java(TM) programming language. The idea being the application should behave identically on all platforms that support Java(TM), however since all Java(TM) VM implementations are not the same, there may be some differences. Please report any bug to MY EMAIL

INSTALLING VM

You need a Java(TM) VM installed on your machine to run this application. You can download VM for most platforms from javasoft

Follow the instruction to install VM. Your VM needs to be version 1.0.2 or later .

HOW TO RUN LinkSearch

Unzip the LinkSearch.zip file that you downloaded and copy the class files to any directory.

TYPE: "java LinkSearch" from the directory where the class files are to invoke LinkSearch.

Please Note: Case matters and if you already have Microsoft's VM TYPE: "jview LinkSearch".

For other VM please consult the vendor's instruction.

If you have cgi stuff in your HTML page LinkSearch will ignore them and only deal with the links to target files.

Once you have invoked LinkSearch, you will have a GUI with a text box to type your top HTML target page url ( some thing like "http://www.bestsite.com/index.html" ).

LinkSearch will connect to all the pages through TCP/IP and HTTP protocol.

LinkSearch will search through the top page and all the linked local HTML pages and extract the links and will search through the local pages only.

If you have circular links LinkSearch will search them only once. However if you have the same page in different directories it will treat them as different pages.

LinkSearch will check for you graphic files also.

LinkSearch will check for remote links but it will not extract links from remote pages.

You have two list boxes one reporting the activities of LinkSearch, and the other reporting the dead links

I NEED FEEDBACK

Tell me what you think, suggestions, questions, problems, etc. I will be adding options and features to make LinkSearch faster and more functional to perform in a way you a web master would like to use it. However I need to know what you would like to have with LinkSearch.

Please email what option, feature, and function you would like to see with LinkSearch.

This is a tool for you web masters and I would like to add features to make your work easy.

Thank you for using LinkSearch.
