It was a few weeks later.  Joan had been going through school but each time she saw God, she would head off in a different direction.  She didnt want to deal with Him.

Joan was heading to class when her stomach started to turn.  She put her hand over her mouth and raced into the girls bathroom.  Adam, who had been passing by, looked confused and waited for her.  When she walked out, he went to her.

Are you all right?

Yeah just one of those days.

Maybe you should go home. He said.

Joan shook her head.  No Im fine.  I probably just need to eat something.

Adam took her hand and gave it a squeeze.  Joan smiled.  Were going to be late.

So?

Joan chuckled.  She stopped and sighed.

What is it?

Memory.  Comes and goes.

Adam looked at her, concerned but Joan shrugged him off.

Im okay, Adam.  I promise.

Okay.

Joan walked through the aisles of the convenience store avoiding meeting anyones gaze.  She didnt want to look suspicious but at the same time no one could know what she was buying.  She grabbed what she needed and went to the counter.

I know the answer, Joan. The cashier God said.

Joan glared at him.  Yes or no?

I cant tell you.  Youll find out.

Did I do something wrong?  Did I forget to follow a direction?  Did I screw up?  What did I do to deserve this?

Everything will come full circle. He gave her the purchase.

Joan looked at him.   Stop doing this to me. She left quickly.

Joan sat on the toilet seat holding the box in her hands.  Blue= Pregnant.  Pink= Not pregnant.  Joan put a hand to her forehead.  She wished she had called Grace or Adam but she knew one would call the other and theyd both be over before the results came in.

Joan looked at her watch.  One minute to go.  One minute until her life would take a different turn.  Joan closed her eyes and then opened them.  She looked at the stick and picked it up.  She waited for the results to appear before her eyes.

Adam finished his newest creation and smiled albeit sadly.  He knew Joan was a different person now but he wanted to give her something to symbolize the strength he knew she had within her.  He was making sure it was absolutely perfect when the door to the shed opened.  He looked up and saw Joan.

Hey.  Joan didnt say anything.  She just walked towards him, slowly.  Her face was pale and she looked scared.  Jane?  Whats wrong?

Joans bottom lip trembled and Adam stood up quickly.  Come here.  Joan walked into his arms and started sobbing openly.  Adam stroked her hair.  Its okay.  Im right here.  You dont have to tell me.  Just let it out.  Let it all out.

Her next words shocked him to the core but he kept holding her.  Im pregnant.

An hour later, Joan had eaten something and was feeling a little better.  She went back to the shed.

Hey.

Hey. Adam looked around and picked up his sculpture.  Here.

Joan took it and smiled.  Thanks.  What is it?

Its your hand holding your heart.  I wanted it to show the strength you had.

Its beautiful.

Adam licked his lips.  What are you going to do?

Joan looked at him.  About what?

The baby.

Joan frowned and set the piece down.  She sat down and sighed.  I dont know.  I dont think I could keep it.

Adam nodded.  Understandable.

Joan looked at him.  What do you think?

Honestly?  Its your decision.  I have no say in the matter.  But no matter what you decide to do, Im here for you. He took her hand.

Thanks. Joan sighed.  What am I going to tell my parents?  Lukes gonna freak.

Well call Grace.  She can get him to settle down.

Joan shrugged.  Walk me home?

Sure.

They got up and left the shed, walking quietly beside each other.  When they got to her house, Joan looked at Adam.

Thanksfor everything.

Adam nodded and hugged her.  He pulled away.

Im sorry.  Im so sorry.

For what?

For being late.  If I had only gotten there earlier.

Adam, dontits not your fault.  You didnt cause this to happen. Joan gently stroked his cheek and he closed his eyes.  Its not your fault.  Okay?  You have to believe me.

Adam looked at her.  He didnt say anything.  Will you be okay?

I think so.  Ill call you later.

Adam nodded and kissed her.  She tensed up a bit but settled down.  She pulled away and went inside.  She saw Luke on the couch and sighed.

Hey.  Where is everyone?

Kevin and mom are in the kitchen.  Dads upstairs.

Okay.  Could you get him for me?

Sure.  Is everything okay?

Joan shook her head.  Luke put his book down and headed upstairs.  Joan went into the kitchen and Kevin smiled.

Hey.  Want an apple?

Joan nodded.  Sure. She took a piece from him and ate it in two bites.  Will walked downstairs.

Hey honey.  Luke said you needed to talk to us.

Is everything alright, sweetie? Helen asked.

No. Joan sat down.  Im pregnant.

They were all silent.

Joan Helen finally said taking her hand.

God sis.  What are you going to do? Kevin asked.

I dont know. Joan said softly.  I dont think I can keep it.

Ill kill him. Luke said.

Joan looked at him.  Luke

Dad you better find the bastard before I do. Luke got up and left the house.

Joan looked at Will.  Daddy?

Its going to be alright.  I promise. He looked troubled.

Joan nodded.  Im worried about Luke.  Hes taking this awful hard.

Hell be okay. Kevin said.

I should go after him. She started to get up but nearly stumbled.  Whoa

Um why dont you go upstairs and lay down.  Ill make you a cup of tea.

Okay. Joan went upstairs.  When she got onto her bed, she placed her hands on her stomach but quickly pulled away.
