You look beautiful. Joan replied as she walked around Grace examining her. Grace looked at Joan and smiled slightly. You have me beat, Joan. Joan pursed her lips as she looked in the mirror. Nah. No ones gonna be looking at me. Oh? Youre the bride. Joan said as she messed with a button on the back of Graces wedding dress. Grace blushed. It was Luke and Graces wedding day and Joan was helping her get ready. Helen was entertaining Matt and Sierra giving Joan and Grace time to make sure everything was going well. What if I dont want the attention? Grace asked. Well we could always switch places. Joan said nonchalantly. Uh ew. Grace scrunched up her face getting the wrong idea. I meant Adam and me. And gross image, Grace! Ugh! Joan shot her a look. Grace let out a giggle and frowned. Tell anyone I just did that and youre dead. Youve been using that threat on me since high school. Like I believe you. Grace rolled her eyes and straightened her dress. It was just a simple white floor length dress with one-inch straps sitting on her shoulders. She didnt want anything on her head but then Luke and Sierra surprised her with a beautiful silver hairclip, Grace had to wear the clip since it was a gift from her fiance and beautiful daughter. Joan had pulled her hair back in a gentle half do and clipped her hair so it was out of her face. Joan was in a red velvet dress that opened at the bottom. The inside was silk while the outside was velvet. Ties held her straps together and she had her hair curled. There was a knock and Joan turned. Who is it? she called. Helen. And Sierra! And Matt! Come in. Helen walked in holding her grandchildrens hands and smiled. Oh Grace, Joan, you girls look Helen almost felt like crying. Uh thanks Helen. Grace blushed. She still couldnt take compliments. Wow mommy. You look beautiful. Sierra said softly. So do you baby. Come here. Grace bent down and hugged her daughter, who was in a white dress with pink flowers on the bottom. Her hair had been curled and was put in a half up and held by a clip. Mommy! Wow. Matt said. You like it? Joan blushed as she held Matts hand. Cha. Grace and Joan laughed. He had been around Adam too long. Does mommy look better than daddy? Joan asked giving him a wink. Unchallenged! Joan hugged Matt close. I love you sweetie. I love you too, mommy. Hey sweetie. How is daddy doing? Grace asked. Fine but he keeps talking to himself and using big words like he does when hes working on something or hes going somewhere. That means hes okay. Grace chuckled. Oh. Mommy? Hmm? How long have you and daddy been together? Since we were fifteen and sixteen. Grace said as she fixed Sierras dress. Oh. When did you have me? Grace looked at Joan and Helen. Joan and Helen just nodded. We had you when we were a little older. Sierra smiled and hugged Grace. Joan sighed softly and picked Matt up. So how is our big guy doing? she asked indicating Adam. Fine. Trying to keep Uncle Luke calm Good. So are we ready to get this started? Helen asked. Grace nodded. Wheres my mom? Helen looked at Joan and then at Grace. Shes on her way. Grace nodded. The door opened and Grace turned to see her mom. Gracie Sarah was in awe at how beautiful her daughter looked. Grace looked at Joan and Helen. Why dont I take the kids to the bathroom? Joan asked. I dont have to go mommy. Matt said. Yes you do. Come on. Mom? Oh let me help. Helen took Sierra by the hand and they left. Grace looked at her mom. Hey mom. You look beautiful. Thanks. Grace looked into her eyes, searching for anything. Im fine, honey. I promise I wont do anything to embarrass you. Grace just looked at her. Even after everything that happened, Grace was still cautious around her mother. Honey, its your day. Sarah said softly. Grace looked down. I dont want to go there. I love you. I always will but like I said, my daughter comes first. I want her to have fun. Sarah nodded. I understand. You dont have to worry about me. Grace just shook her head. Sarah walked over and hugged her. Grace hugged her back before pulling away. Thanks. For trying. Grace said. Of course. Sarah put a hand on her cheek before leaving. Joan walked in and closed the door. Grace was at the mirror again checking her makeup. Hey. Are you okay? Yeah. Grace turned to her and shrugged. I dont know what to do. I want to believe her but at the same timeI know shes probably going to have something and I justI dont want Sierra to see it. Shell be fine, Grace. She promised. Grace smiled slightly. Got that from my dad. Joan didnt know how to answer that. So we have a wedding to go to. Grace nodded. Yeah. Do you have something old? Grace touched the necklace on her neck, the one she always wore in high school. Something borrowed? I hate tradition, Girardi. Grace giving her a look. Something borrowed? Joan smiled. Grace held up her wrist showing Joan the bracelet Adam had given to Joan one year after that night. Something blue? Garter. Grace replied. Something new? Grace put her head down and Joan frowned. Grace looked up and smiled placing a hand on her stomach. Joans eyes widened and she squealed. Grace! Ohwhenhowwhy didnt you tell me! I just found out Im two months along. Oh Grace. Joan hugged her unexpectedly. Oh congratulations. Thanks. Grace pulled away and Joan could finally saw why she had been glowing. Not that Im not happy but how did this happen? Joan was shocked and excited. I dont know. I mean I went to the gynecologist a year ago for my regular check up and she said there was no change. But then I went earlier this month because I havent been feeling well. She had me do a urine sample and sure enough, Im two months pregnant. She was as shocked as you are. She wanted to run more tests but I said no. Im having a baby! Grace laughed. Oh wow! Joan laughed. Oh wow. Does Luke know? Not yet. Im going to tell him today. Oh. Sierras going to have a brother or sister! OhI justits definitely a miracle. WaitGrace did you by any chance run into any interesting people lately? Not really, unless she stopped talking suddenly. What? Well, a week after Matts birthday, I was at the store and this woman came up to me and started talking to me. She put her hand on my arm and said everything would be all right. That nightIm sure you dont want to know that part so Ill skip it. Grace chuckled nervously. Umyes please. Joan gave her a look. It was just that night everything felt so rightand my body felt lighter and warmer. I didnt understand why. Joan smiled. Its definitely a miracle. It is. Grace sighed. There was a knock on the door and the girls looked at it. Grace? Joan? Were ready. Kevin called. Welltime to get married, Grace. Joan smiled. Grace smiled and nodded. Lets go. They hugged one more time before they grabbed their flowers and walked out of the room. Adam, Will and Kevin were there waiting. Once they saw the girls, they were shocked and amazed at how beautiful they looked. Wow. They both said. The girls blushed. Thanks. Wow. Adam said looking at Joan. Thanks. Hands down, Matthew Girardi is one smart kid. His mother is beautiful. Kevin said. Okay guys the bride is standing right there. Joan blushed and looked at Grace apologetically. Grace just rolled her eyes. Kevin smiled. You look gorgeous of course, Grace. Thanks Kevin. I appreciate that. Hey Rove, 19 years of friendship, I deserve something! Adam laughed. Of course you look wonderful. Luke is waiting patiently for you. Patient? Luke? Are we talking about the same guy? Grace playfully punched him. Will walked over and smiled. Ladies? Joan and Grace turned to him. Were ready. Grace took his arm. Thanks for this. Hey Im gaining a daughter out of this deal. Of course I already did four years ago. Grace rolled her eyes and they waited for Kevin, Adam and Joan to pass them. The music started and Adam and Joan started the walk down the aisle. Adam turned to Joan and she smiled. What? she whispered. Youre beautiful, thats what. Thanks. They got to the top and reluctantly separated to stand in their places. Sierra and Matt walked down the aisle next. When they got there they looked confused. Joan gently pulled Sierra to her and Luke took Matt. The wedding march started and the guests stood up. Will and Grace came into view and Luke couldnt take his eyes off her. Grace saw him looking at her, blushed, and started walking towards him. When she got there, Luke took her hand. Wow. You look amazing. Thanks. Grace laughed softly. Luke smiled and they turned to Graces father, who was leading the ceremony. Joan watched them with a smile and she looked around at everyone. She spotted a pretty woman with red hair. Joan knew who it was immediately and nodded. The woman nodded and Joan turned back to the ceremony at hand. |
