to the growth of our economy and JA’s “learn by doing” approach goes a
long way in providing students with the necessary skills to be successful.
As a window to the world, the JA experience helps
young people discover leadership, entrepreneurial and workforce readiness

School (ESIS):
This program helps students explore the concepts of success, independence,
employment, and emphasizes the importance an education holds in preparing
them for the future. Guided by a classroom teacher and a volunteer from
the local business community, students learn about the relationship between
education and personal goals. They define success in personal terms, begin

the types of careers that match their goals and lifestyle expectations.

Life Skills
The Company Program:
Guided by a team of business advisors, students meet after school once
a week to operate their own company. Every aspect of owning and running
a business is covered, from raising capital by selling stock, to preparing
a business plan and financial statements. Students produce a product or
provide a service, develop a marketing and sales strategy and then get
a chance to put their selling techniques to work. At the end of 24 weeks,
the company is liquidated, the books are closed, dividends are declared
and distributed, and a report is issued to the shareholders.
