RMKS 1- Departed Pearl 4 June 1942 for the Aleutian Islands, Sector AI-1 with 24 MK 14 torpedoes and SD radar. RMKS 2- Arrived Aleutians (50-07N, 173-19E) 13 June - 0023. 220 miles SSW of the Rat Islands. Travel time 9.5 days. Fuel used 28290 Gals. Set course for AI-1. Moderate seas and clear. RMKS 3- Arrived patrol sector 13 June - 1200. Setup patrol pattern WNW of Kiska running E/W. RMKS 4- 14 June-1626-Visual-Maru hull down. 1632-High periscope search visual-1 Armed Merchant Cruiser-1 Converted Factory Ship-3 escorts.Setup intercept course. 1700-Fired 2 torpedoes at AMC - 2 misses Fired 2 more at AMC - Hit and a Premature Fired 1 at AMC - Hit and sunk Fired 2 at Troopship - Miss and Hit and sunk. Escorts dropped many Depth Charges - No damage. 2245 - Escorts gone - Surrfaced - Resumed patrol towards Attu Island. Calm seas and Partly cloudy. RMKS 5- 15 June - 2336 - Visual - Maru hull down-Set up intercept coursse. 2345 - High periscope visual. 3 Marus in line ahead and 2 escorts. Unable to ID account too dark. Set torpedo depth to 10 feet. Fired 1 torpedo at maru #2 - miss Fired 1 at maru #1 - hit Fired 1 at maru #1 - hit Fired 1 aft at maru #1 - dud Fired 1 at maru #2 - miss Fired 1 aft at maru #1 - hit and sunk Fired 1 at maru #3 - hit Fired 1 at maru #3 - dud Fired 1 aft at maru #3 - hit and sunk 2355-Escorts coming hard-Pulled the plug. 2259-Escorts milling around-2000 yds-Surfaced and chasing maru #2. RMKS 6- 16 June- 0005 - Cannot ID maru. Too dark. Too dark for deck gun action. End around. 0020- Fired 1 torpedo at maru #2. Miss. Repositioning for new attack. 0030-Fired 1 torpedo at maru #2 - Hit and Sunk. Clearing area. Patrolling towards Kiska. 0740- Shifting patrol north to Attu. 1630 - SD contact. 17000 yds. Tracking. 1641 - Visual. Maru hull down. A/C 9000 yds and closing. Pulled the plug. Heading for deep water to wait for visual maru contact. 1645 - To radar depth. No SD contacts. Surfaced. 1650 - High periscope search. 4 marus in line ahead coming around Agattu Island. Range 15000 yds. Sunset 2051. Maintaining 15000 yds. Marus bearing 180 deg. 1 Std Merchant - 2 Oil Tankers - 1 Small Freighter - No escorts. 1812 - Fired 2 torpedoes at Std Merchant. Dud and Hit. Fired 1 at Oil Tanker #1 - Hit and Sunk. Fired 1 at Oil Tanker #2 - Miss. Surfaced. Chasing. Manned deck gun for Std Merchant. 12 hits and on fire. 38 more rounds and Sunk. Check fire. Switched deck gun to Small Freighter. 19 hits and on fire. 17 more hits and Sunk. 1841 - Chasing last Oil Tanker. End around. 1946 - gained position ahead. To periscope depth. Bearing 190 deg. Due to possibility of unescorted marus, set course for Kiska and possible deck gun action. RMKS 7 - 18 June-0446- 2 SD contacts. 14000 yds and closing. Pulled the plug at 10000 yds. 0505 - To radar depth. SD all clear. Sonar reports low speed screws. To periscope depth. Visual. 9 marus in line ahead. 6000 yds. No escorts. Swung around behind last maru in line. 0550 - Battle surfaced. Manned deck gun. Last maru in line 2800 yds. Bearing 000 deg. Opened fire on Supply Ship. 15 hits and on fire. 4 more hits and ran out of ammo. Maintained 2800 yds range and he did not return fire. 0551 - All ordinance expended. Cleared area.
