Arrived SJ 6 24 Dec-400 miles SE of Bungo Suido-Setup patrol pattern to the NE. 24 Dec 2145-Visual CV TF-1 Chitose-1 Myoko CA- 2 DD's inbound for Bungo - 24 kts-No zig zag. Fired 4 forward torpedoes at Chitose at ordered depth (33 ft). 3 misses - 1 premature. Fired 2 aft torpedoes at Chitose at ordered depth. 2 prematures. Dived to 300 ft. Escorts dropped many DC's and no damage.  25 Dec - 0815 - Visual convoy - 2 Troopships - 1 Small Freighter - No escorts. Fired 1 and 2 at leading Troopship. 2 misses. Fired 3 and 4 at same. 1 miss - 1 premature Fired 5 and 6 at same. 2 misses. Surfaced for deck gun action. A/c spotted - dived - dropped 2 bombs and both missed. Tracking Troopship with sonar. Reload complete. Troopship reversed course and came straight back at us. Fired 1 at TS - miss Fired 2 - miss Fired 3 at 22 ft (keel depth) and sank same. Surfaced - visual - Troopship. Surface torpedo attack- Fired 4 at 22 ft (keel depth) - hit and on fire Torpedoes Expended. Manned deck gun - 1 round sank the Troopship. Commenced search for Small Freighter -unable to locate.
