NOTES below. 1200hrs, decision made to return home due to inability to
trust torpedoes. 5. Ordinance report: 16 x Mk14s, 0 shells used. 5 hits,
1 dud, 7 'misses', 3 prematures. 6. Casualty Report: Nil 7. Docked Freemantle
yesterday a.m., 07/31/42 8. NOTES: 1. These torpedoes have problems. Refer
to contact reps 5 & 6. Track data was good, targets were all under
1k5yds close enough to read their names. If track data was off, then no
targets would have been hit. Unfortunately, except for the tanker, 1 hit
does not seem to do much harm to a medium-to-large Std. 2. Coast Watcher
reports could be more precise. "Concoy hdg SSw past BU at xxxxhrs" does
not allow any sort of intercept possibility. PATROL SUMMARY Boat: SS199
