Patrol_narrative
Enroute to PZ (JS-5) received radio report of airstrike on Kendari 9-10-42 0222. Made way for Kendari area. Through combination of surface runs and slow, submerged approaches, GAR rescued a totol of 4 pilots (some in the Kendari harbor area). Tricky saves as there were two patroling DDs in area. (No harbor ships attacked, only pilots saved) Later in PZ, GAR was forced to defend herself by sinking a DD during an approach in heavy fog against a small convoy. GAR sustained some damage but was able to evade remaining DDs. Merchants were also sunk in the engagement. Another white knuckle ride all around. Crew performed admirably.
