On Euthanasia

Setting : Car, driving home after celebrating my grandmother's birthday. My bro is contemplating how little she can enjoy it, since she's now senile, and likely to go soon. Cast is of Me, Bro, Dad, and Mom.

Me : Boy, at least we can now go to Italy without a smear on our conscience now.

Bro : Well, it doesn't seem right, keeping her alive this way. Sometimes, I get the feeling like she's suffering.

Me : It's filial piety to keep your parents alive no matter what.

Bro : But is it filial piety to have them suffer?

Dad : Oh, so my son'll pull out the plug.

Me : But then again, it's also immoral to just kill someone, even if they're suffering. It's not good to take another person's life.

Dad : Then my daughter puts back in the plug.

Bro : But is it morality to keep someone alive and in pain, unable to appreciate life?

Dad : No! He's suffering! Pull out the plug!

Me : But it's still your family! You can't just simply kill them off. It's sort of a duty to keep them alive.

Dad : No! That's my Dad! Put the plug back in!

Me : Geez, Dad! You can quit it now!

Bro : Sheesh.

Mom : ( sitting in the front seat chuckling quietly )

Dad : Well, it was sort of relevant. ( sniggers )
