| Marijuana Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant. you may hear mariuana called by street names such as pot, herb, weed, grass, boom, Mary Jane, gangster, or chronic. There are more thatn 200 slang terms for marijuana. All forms of marijuana are mind-altering. In other words, they change how the brain works. They all contain THC(delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the main active chemical in marijuana. They also contain more than 400 other chemicals. Marijuana's effects on the user depend on it's strength or potency, which is related to the amount of THC it cotain.. The THC content of marijuana has been increasing since the 1970s. |
Medicinal marijuana The rights and medical needs of patients have been sacrificed to the goverment's falling war on drugs. Patients suffering from AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and other serious conditions often find that marijuana is the most, sometimes only efective treatment; yet those who do use marijuana as medicine are subject to arrest, incaceration, seizure of assests and other criminal sanctions. Many more never find out that marijuana could have helped them, and suffer needlessly as a result. |

Drug dependence is a compulsion to take a drug to produce a desired effect or prevent unpleasant effects when the drug is withhelp. Risk factors for drugs abuse include: low self esteem, inability to deal with stress, and emotional instability. Juveniles use drugs due to peer pressure. Sign of drugs use in childrens include: a change in friends or group, long absences from home, poor performance in school, seclusion, stealing, lying, criminal behavior, deteriorating family relationships, signs of drugs intoxication, and changes in behavior. Commonly abused drugs include narcotic analgesic agents, benzodiazeoines, cocaine, amphetamines, barbiturates, marijuana, LSD, and phencyclidine. Many labs now offer quick and inexpensive urine drug screening. Psychological counseling and parentl support will be necessary in childrens with this problem. |
