"My father, Glen, dropped out of high school to enlist in the Navy as soon
as he turned 18. There was a war going on and he didn't want to miss it.
He stayed in for 24 years during which time he married Dorothy Chipperi and
had a couple of kids, Glen Jr. and me. Because dad was in the service, we
never stayed anywhere very long but I did get to see a chunk of the world."

Glen Arthur Steddum--Obituary Notice from Mail Tribune, Medford, OR

The memorial service for Glen Arthur Steddum will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Estates Club House, 333 Mountain View, Talent. Pastor Bob Huntoon will officiate.

Mr. Steddum, 75, of Talent, died Tuesday (Sept., 28, 1999) at home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate, 1425 N.E. Irving No. 100, Portland, OR 97232-4201; or to The West Coast Humane Society, P.O. Box 417220, Sacramento, CA 95841-7220.

He was born Mar. 17, 1924 in Clovis, N.M.

On Nov. 10, 1984, in Garden Grove, Calif., he married Norma Ballinger, who survives.

Mr. Steddum served in the U.S. Navy for 21 1/2 years as a cook. He was discharged on March 12, 1964 and then served in the Fleet Reserve.

He was a baker and a cook.

Mr. Steddum enjoyed hosting benefit breakfasts.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Glen, Los Gatos Calif., and Dale, Olathe, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Lou Cushing, Bakersfield, Calif., and Peggy Rehm, Winchester, Tenn., and 2 grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Della O., age 75, went to be with her Lord 6-8-93. Della was born 3-22-18 in Hobart, Ok. to L.J. and Nora McCurdy. Della was preceded
in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim Steddum. Della is survived by a son, Bill L. Steddum; daughter, Patricia D. Tennery and
husband, Clarence, Jr.; grandchildren, Desiree, Deborah, Sonya and Susan; great grandchildren, Marcus, Adrienne, Skylar; and a host of
other relatives and friends. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Chimes with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park.

SOMERVILLE - Graveside services for Leonard Irven Nixon, 77, of League City and formerly of Somerville are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville.

The Rev. Reagan Reeves will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Mr. Nixon died Tuesday at St. John�s Hospital in Nassau Bay.

He was born in Somerville and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a retired merchant seaman of the Seafarers International Union and a member of East Haven Baptist Church in Houston.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Edwinna Nixon of League City; a daughter and son-in-law, Luduska and Edward Wilhoyt of Malta, Ill.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Nixon and Lewis and Elizabeth Nixon, all of Houston; three sisters, Dorothy Mae Gassey of Belton, Mo., Rita John of New Waverly and Emma Jean Alt of Arlington; two brothers, Vernon Nixon of Trinity and Irven Nixon of Garland; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Somerville.
